Amare Stoudemire Joins Maccabi Canada's Coaching team
The athletes attending last weekend’s Open Men’s Basketball tryouts in Toronto, enjoyed a special treat in a way of a surprise visit by New York Knick’s Amare Stoudemire.
Amare who just last Friday confirmed his commitment to assist Coach John Dore in coaching the team at the 19th Maccabiah Games, took the first step towards fulfilling his obligation by flying to Toronto to attend the final National tryouts, and give his input as to who should represent Canada next summer.
It was John Dore, Head Coach of the Maccabi Canada Open Men’s team who made the initial contact with Stoudemire. Dore who has been involved with the Knicks on a few occasions drove to New York to meet with Amare, and presented the idea of going to Israel as a part of the Canadian delegation to him.
When asked about his decision to be a part of the Maccabiah coaching staff Amare said “I heard about these games and I know how important they are. When I got the call, it was a no brainer for me”
During the tryouts Amare took an active part in working with the athletes, giving instructions, taking notes and sharing his thoughts with Coach Dore. Amare’s presence is sure to draw a lot of attention to Maccabi Canada and the Maccabiah Games, and will elevate the 19th Maccabia basketball tournament to a new, exciting level.
