CODE OF CONDUCT
Maccabi Canada is confident that all athletes, coaches, managers, staff, chaperones, and medical staff are fully aware that they are representing the Canadian Jewish community at the "Games" (Maccabiah Games, Pan American Maccabi Games, European Maccabi Games). The highest standards of sportsmanship must be maintained, both on and off the field. As a representative of Maccabi Canada, each delegation member is expected to act in a professional manner with the utmost respect towards each and every individual with whom they interact with prior, during and post the Games.
All Maccabi Canada athletes, staff, and parents must accept the provisions of this statement as a condition of their participation.
Athlete Code of Conduct
- At all times, adhere to the Maccabi Canada policies.
- At all times, be a responsible goodwill ambassador for Canada, refraining from any acts that may reflect unfavorably upon you, your teammates, your sport, and your country.
- Wear the official Canadian Team apparel at all athletic competitions and official functions as deemed necessary by Maccabi Canada Executive and/or the team leadership.
- Attend all functions and programs as directed by Maccabi Canada and Maccabi World Union. Unauthorized absence from the group is forbidden and will result in a disciplinary hearing.
- If warranted, adhere to curfews established.
- Drugs – Anyone using, selling, or administering any drugs, narcotics, etc. (without the express permission of the Medical Staff) will be dismissed from the Maccabi Canada Team and sent home immediately at the athlete/parent/guardians expense.
Anti-Doping policy regulations are strictly enforced and it is the responsibility of the athlete to be educated on the rules set in place.
- Alcohol – The drinking of alcohol in hotel rooms is not permitted – Maccabi Canada’s Policy age limit for alcohol is 19 years of age. Underage drinking and/or alcohol abuse will result in dismissal from the Maccabi Canada Team at the athlete/parent/guardians expense.
- Tobacco – Smoking in the hotel rooms or at sports venues is prohibited. Maccabi Canada’s Policy age limit for smoking is 18 years of age. Underage smoking will result in dismissal from the Maccabi Canada Team at the athlete/parent/guardians expense.
- Sexual behaviour – Participants shall respect all games participants and refrain from inappropriate or unwanted behaviour, whether physical or not which may be taken as sexual aggression. Unconsented sex, underage sex, and a breach of the above rules will result in dismissal from the Maccabi Canada Team at the athlete/parent/guardians expense.
- Vandalism – Any expense incurred as a result of damage to property or persons will be charged to the athlete/parent/guardians concerned and will also result in a disciplinary hearing.
- Any and all gross acts of misconduct, as defined by Maccabi Canada or Maccabi World Union leadership may result in immediate expulsion from the games and the participant will be sent home at his/her own expense.
Parent Code of Conduct
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these “six pillars of character.”
I therefore agree:
- I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
- I will learn and adhere to the policies of Maccabi Canada.
- I will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, staff, and spectators at every game, practice or other Maccabi event.
- I will not engage in any kind of disrespectful or unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, medical or any other Maccabi staff member, such as booing and taunting; or using profane language or gestures.
- I will respect Maccabi Canada’s and Maccabi World Union’s staff and their authority during the Games and will never question or confront the Junior leadership including officials, coaches, managers, medical team or chaperones.
- I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during the Games.
- I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.
- I also agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action that could include removal of my child from the team at the parents’ expense.
Staff Code of Conduct
- I will learn and adhere to the policies of Maccabi Canada.
- I will be a positive role model for all delegation members and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, staff, and spectators at every game, practice or other Maccabi event.
- I will not engage in any kind of disrespectful or unsportsmanlike conduct
- I will not engage in any sexual or abusive, unwelcoming or inappropriate activity with any athletes.
- I understand that the taking of recreational drugs and/or alcohol is prohibited and will not be tolerated
- My dress and appearance will be suitable and respectful at all times.
- I will not willfully damage any property (vandalism) as it is considered a serious breach of conduct and payment will be charged to me.
- Any staff who is sent home for disciplinary reasons will be charged for any expenses occurred and will receive no refund.
- Staff must not engage in any illegal activity. This is strictly prohibited. Maccabi Canada has a zero tolerance policy.
